"She's Just a Girl...

and she's on fire..."

My second biological was born ten years ago today.  She is more than I could have ever asked for and being her mom is an honor.  Today's blog is dedicated to my baby girl.

My Dearest CRR,
Wow, God sure knew what he was doing when He sent you to me.  I haven't figured out what He was doing, but I'm glad He knows.  :)

On this day, ten years ago, Dr. Van set you on my chest and I knew at that very moment that you were going to be a dynamo.  You were already mad as hell and you let the entire delivery room know it.  The tiny little curls shaped like the letter C all over your small precious noggin left me wondering how on earth I was going to tame what would soon be a wild mane or like your brother once described it, a bird's nest.

So today baby girl, on the day of your double-digit, decade birthday, I want you to know a few things:
  • pray in good times and in bad times
  • talk to me about things even if you think it will upset me
  • remember how amazing you are all on your own, no one needs to complete you
  • know your own worth, you are priceless
  • be brave but remember it's okay to need a shoulder to cry on, just make it a good shoulder
  • your brother, although he is always on your butt about stuff, loves you so much
  • love with all your heart, it may get broken, but it may not and that's a chance worth taking
  • make time for all your grandparents, but especially Grandpa Henry because he's awesome :)
  • don't forget, you may not think I know what I'm talking about, but girl...I've done it all!
  • life with a loving heart is wonderful, don't let hatred penetrate it, let it go...
  • be smart with your money, very smart:  Earn, Save a lot, Spend a little, Splurge sometimes
  • don't buy things at regular price, be wise and stick to classic looks, but you know this!
  • staying in a relationship that is toxic is never okay
  • find a partner that treats you better than you would treat yourself
  • again, pray-when you feel bad, but especially when you feel great
Happy Birthday Girl on Fire!  I can't wait for the day you understand what the love of a mother is all about and you realize that some of the decisions I made during your childhood were made for the future you and the future you is going to set this world on fire...

I love you more,
Mama
