My Bestie
We met in 1997. I was fresh out of college, a brand new teacher. We bonded one evening in her classroom when we found out we had more in common than we knew. We were both the youngest, had two sisters, short dads who worked their butts off to provide for their families and so many more things, too many to list.
She has been by my side through thick and thin, happy and sad, joy and tragedy. She has seen me laugh hysterically and she is one, of the very few, that has seen me break down and cry the ugly cry.
I love her more than I can describe. For lack of better words, she is my other half, my missing piece and even though our lives have kept us busy and we don't get to spend as much time with each other, sometimes just hearing her voice, her "I know sweetie, I know" is all I need.
We've had the pleasure of working at two different schools together, on the same team and dangerously, in the same hall. She has rushed into my classroom to find out who sent the two dozen pink roses and has let me hide in her class when I did not want to be found. She gets me, like no one else does. She speaks my language.
My Bestie has been my alibi, accomplice, my original partner in crime. She has taken late night phone calls from me when I've needed to share my shenanigans. She has made phone calls to get me out of situations, to touch base with me and to give me a sanity check when I've been on the brink of homicide. There is no one else like her. She is irreplaceable.
Her family has taken me in, made me an honorary member and have showered my children and I with love and support. (And food!) Sitting around her kitchen table, talking nonsense, is still one of my favorite things to do.
Es, I am honored to be your friend. To have you in my life is one of God's biggest blessings. And although our lives have kept us apart, you have a very special, permanent place in my heart. I love you chingos Friend. Thank you for always listening to my hater rants, my ridiculous shenanigans and my full blown tonteras. We are blessed. May God continue to strengthen our friendship.
ESG, happy birfffday!
