Memorable Rides...Rated PG
Wow...it has been a long day. Busy Friday at work, long needed walk with biologicals and close friends, very not-good-for-me dinner but well worth the fun conversation and great company. I feel quite blessed with the humans God has placed in my circle.
There must have been at least 3 separate conversations going on at dinner today so I don't know where it came from but I heard someone say, "Alfa Romeo." Hmmmm...funny how a word, scent or song can take you back to a certain moment in time...
So on the drive home the churning of memories, ideas and thoughts started. My mind was racing with flashes of all things motor vehicle and I knew what my next blog must be...my most memorable rides. I added the PG to make sure certain people, aka Crazy Co-Worker, wouldn't think I was talking triple X rides...just sayin!
The year was 1979 and I was my dad's shadow. Seriously, I followed that man everywhere. My favorite place...the lumber store...I think it was MG at the time. The ride...1965 Chevy Nova, mint green. At a time when a six year girl could ride in the front seat with only a lap belt...I was as happy as a clam when dad would ask if I wanted to go with him. Windows down, music playing and I don't remember life being any better than when the wind was blowing through my long brown hair and dad was shifting gears...seemed like he was racing down the street.
Don't know the year but the van is unforgettable. Ugliest thing now that I think about it but damn was it a fun place to be. Captain chairs up front and 2nd row and a third seat that looked like a couch. Did I mention the sink?! Ahahahaha...who the hell needs a sink in their vehicle? The Rodriguez' on 7914 Glen Garden, that's who!! That bad boy took us to Saltillo, Coah., San Diego, CA and up and down the streets of SA.
Mudding in Uncle Roger's old chevy and cruising in Uncle Mage's tractor...All I gots to say is listen to Brooks and Dunn's Red Dirt Road. No place like the ranch!
Diane's fire engine red t-bird! That car made high school oh so much fun! Can anyone say George West to see the Taylor Bros. perform? Speaking of high school...let's not leave out the Geo Prism driven by a certain Squirrely Squirrel! Damn good times if I do say so myself. Laredo or Bust! Port A. or Bust! Random Club in SA or Bust! Long ass drive home and bust...like two tires busted on the wrong side of road bust! Really Michael, you and I should not be alive today! Cosa mala nucar muerde is all I gots to say cuzn. ;)
And now the Alfa Romeo...silver convertible, backfired like nothing I have ever heard before. Fun times. Thanks for the ride home from Target 172 "Bill." (yes names have been changed to protect the innocent) Oh and "Bill's" friend "Phil" had a cool dune-bug that was probably not safe to be in at all but worth a mention in a Memorable Rides blog because it was just that!
The red Ford Tempo! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh! Back and forth from Pleasanton to UIW in that tin wagon...no air, no heat and sounded like a damn diesel truck. Couldn't even order through the Drive-Thru because, "Ma'am, you'll have to pull up. I can't hear you." Como que you can't hear me? I can hear me!
The Ride of all Rides-my 1999 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner, first vehicle I purchased on my own with my own damn money man! Let's just say that if that truck could talk...damn it would have some great stories to tell. Really, really great stories! Some might even incriminate. Yikes! Gotta keep it PG!
The Tacoma had a partner in crime. It's name, Chevy Tahoe. Goooood Lord! Summer 2001 was only the best summer ever thanks to that Tahoe speeding through the streets of SA, expertly driven by my bestie, partner in crime, the one, the only, BFF.
Just today, a new memorable ride, thanks to the best 2nd grade team this side of the Pecos. Red freakin Camaro, picked me and the biologicals up on the corner of MLK and Brooksdale. Say What?! No one, I mean NO ONE, has any business standing on that street corner. The ride was magnificent! Brand, spanking new, babe-magnet! Damn Mijo...portate bien, porque si no, mira, I'm gonna hit you with my chancla! hahahaha
But the best ride of all time...the mommy mobile aka 2000 silver 4Runner with way too many miles on it. Took my happy ass...wait...took my not-so-happy ass to California and back with Miss Daisy, countless trips to San Juan, SPI, and everywhere in between. It has been the vehicle where the best mommy-son, mommy-daughter talks have occurred. It brought my sweet little Diva home from the hospital and will be greatly missed when it is replaced. We have a saying in our little family, "What happens in the 4Runner, stays in the 4Runner."
See ya suckers on the streets of SA!
